Environmental Policy

BiP's environmental policy is appropriate to the nature, scale and environmental impact of its activities.

The company accepts its responsibility to reduce the adverse – and increase the beneficial – environmental impacts of its activities, products and services. The policy includes a commitment to continual improvement.

As well as providing and maintaining policies and programmes for the protection of the environment, BiP takes account of environmental factors across its activities, and promotes the integration of environmental considerations into its wider operational practices in the interests of sustainable development.

BiP recognises that everyone is entitled to enjoy a clean, healthy environment. The company places a high emphasis on the provision of clear, accessible information to internal as well as external customers to increase environmental awareness and promote behaviour changes that reduce consumption of natural resources, and create less waste.

BiP is committed to leading, participating in, informing and influencing the environmental performance, policy and practices of all parties through the channels of influence we control or contribute to.

Good environmental practice is an integral part of the company's day-to-day management and activities. The office environment is demanding on resources, including energy, water, paper, equipment, and other consumables. In this regard, as part of BiP's green housekeeping policy over recent years, the company has placed particular emphasis on conservation and demand management.

BiP's purchasing policies have also given priority to environmentally friendly goods and services, and where appropriate local suppliers. For example, where possible, recycled paper is used for our printed materials. BiP's Government Opportunities and MoD Defence Contracts Bulletin magazines use 75% recycled Evolution paper, certified by the National Association of Paper Merchants.

Small things can make a significant difference to the environment. For example, the heating system within BiP's head office has been replaced with one that is more energy-efficient, and the company encourages the use of technology such as fax to desk, in order to reduce paper consumption. Wherever possible waste is measured and action taken to reduce it. The recycling of items such as newspapers and toner cartridges is standard practice.
