Medius
Medius is BiP Solutions’ new headquarters, situated in Glasgow’s Digital Media Quarter.
The building is occupied by more than 220 staff, working across each of the company’s key functions.
The Digital Media Quarter is the location for many of Scotland’s leading media organisations, including BBC Scotland, Scottish Television and Xfm Scotland. It is also home to the Glasgow Science Centre and The Hub, a centre for creative businesses.
Medius was constructed in 2007 to a demanding specification, and incorporates a number of environmentally-friendly features. These include solar glazing to reduce heat loss, motion-activated lighting and a highly efficient air conditioning and air purification system. During the fit-out of Medius, BiP specified environmentally friendly Hydrotaps for the dispensing of hot and cold filtered water, so reducing energy costs and the demand for water deliveries. In addition, BiP’s requirements for server capacity are now delivered via state-of-the-art virtualised servers, reducing energy consumption while increasing performance.
BiP completed its move to Medius in June 2009, following an extensive fit-out programme which took six months to complete. As a digital media organisation, connectivity is a prime concern for BiP, and a significant level of investment was made into the company’s communications and IT infrastructure. Over 16 miles of high-quality data cabling has been installed, and our server room has been designed to comply with the highest standards of security. It houses the latest in virtualised server technology, and our IT capability is supported by a UPS system and generator capable of running indefinitely.
The inside of Medius has been designed to complement the striking exterior. Large open plan spaces bordered by extensive glazing and with high ceilings create a bright and airy working environment. Each floor is equipped with at least one kitchen/diner, and various break-out areas are situated throughout the building.
Communication is an essential part of BiP’s philosophy, and Medius has been designed to accommodate both formal and informal meetings for all group sizes. Two meeting rooms are set aside specifically for visiting clients, and a large, dedicated training room has been provided to enable the delivery of our extensive in-house training schedule.
Medius represents the next, exciting stage in BiP Solutions’ history. Much more than a building, it is a tangible statement of intent for the business and its staff.
